The Merriweather Horns are five "families"s of acoustical sculptures designed for the entrances to Merriweather Park, a new cultural park proposed for Columbia, Maryland. The five installations are titled Skyhorns (east entry), Landhorns (northwest entry), Song Cycles (central entry), Tone Reeds (southwest entry) and Pathfinders (park-wide wayfinding devices). These forms were inspired by the park's fabled history of music in nature. They engage visitors at entryways and pathway intersections, where they capture ambient light by day and illuminate from within at night.

The Merriweather Horns were conceived to produce subtle, high quality musical sound fields at low levels, composed from amplified sounds produced by wildlife, including microorganisms in the forest soil. The translucent, diaphanous horn forms are made of steel mesh over structural resin and steel shells of pearlescent mica, and are internally illuminated at night.

Cochran Studio joined an international design team for the park that included Mahan Rykiel Associates, Martha Schwartz Partners, Marc Fornes / THEVERYMANY, Arup and other firms.
